When deciding between charcoal bbq’s and gas barbeques, there are a few factors that need to be taken into account and many of them simply come down to personal preference. Although a gas BBQ offers convenience, there are some things it just cannot replicate when compared to a charcoal BBQ.
For example, food cooked on a gas grill does not have the same distinct flavour associated with cooking meat over real charcoal coals. Some would argue that this taste is part of the appeal of having a barbeque in the first place. Some people also take a certain sense of pride in the ability to make a fire and keep it going at the correct temperature while cooking.
Gas barbeques, by comparison, offer the perfect fire at the push of a button and are virtually instantaneously ready to grill your meat or any other food you wish to cook on it. The temperature on a gas BBQ can be adjusted with great precision, while charcoal often leaves a mess, not to mention that post BBQ ash that that needs to be removed from your BBQ.
Taste tests have shown that the flavour difference between food cooked on gas versus charcoal is negligible and that, ultimately, the choice between the two is a strictly personal affair. The question one should consider then is how often you are going to be using your barbeque, if you think that might change over time, and the fuel cost factor.
While the initial investment on a gas barbeque is more, it does end up costing less to operate in the long run. Our gas and charcoal barbeques are both excellent choices and, in the end, you have to pick the one that is right for you!
