Portable Barbecues

portable bbq A portable BBQ is a convenient and lightweight outdoor grill. While static and patio barbecues can be inconvenient and difficult to store, a portable BBQ is not only great for taking camping, or on holiday, but is also ideal when space is restricted. There is a surprising number of options available, as well as a host of portable barbecue accessories and equipment to go with the grills that you buy. Grates, griddles, and full culinary systems can truly enhance your grilling experience. Although cooking space does tend to be more limited on portable grills, intelligent design means that there are models that still allow you to cook for a small family or group of people.

BBQ World is the official website of Dawson's Department Store. We stock and sell a large selection of barbecues, including portable barbeques from the likes of Weber, as well as innovative models like the Cobb grill. More On Portable Barbecues

Portable BBQ Fuel Type

As with any barbecue buying decision, one of the first considerations is the type of fuel source that you want to use. A portable gas BBQ doesn't require a long light up time. The barbecue is ready to cook virtually straight away, but the need to lug a gas bottle or propane tank around, means that the gas models are not as popular as portable charcoal barbecues.

A portable barbecue like the Cobb portable charcoal barbecue is an extremely portable alternative. There is no gas bottle, the barbecue itself is extremely compact, and it is also very fuel efficient which means that you only need a relatively small amount of barbecue, further reducing the amount of equipment and accessories that you need to carry with you. Many people prefer the taste and smell of a charcoal barbecue, while others prefer the flexibility and the speed of a portable gas barbecue.

Construction Quality

A portable BBQ will be moved around a lot and potentially stored in a cold and damp environment. Regular cooking and use can also put a strain on the barbecue itself, and if you don't clean the grill thoroughly, this means that abrasive cleaning can lead to damage to the surface of the grill, to the griddle, and to other elements of the barbecue. This means that some poor quality portable barbecues can become quickly and easily damaged and need replacing sooner. Better quality barbecues tend to last longer, and manufacturers like Weber have made a name for themselves by providing high quality portable barbeques.

Sturdy construction and stable design are important, but so too are the quality of the burners and all of the other components.

Grates And Griddles

While a portable BBQ should come with a griddle or grill, but you can also buy additional accessories to further improve the grilling experience. The Weber gourmet cooking system is one example. Compatible with the Weber portable BBQ range, the gourmet system has a removable circle in the centre of the grate. Once removed, this section can be replaced with woks, waffle irons, and even poultry roasters. This means that you can cook a much wider range of foods and meals than you would ordinarily be able to.

Assembly Requirements

Another benefit of portable BBQs is that they tend to require less construction or assembly when compared to full models. The size of the barbecue means that it may even be delivered fully assembled. Some models do require some assembly, but it should be a simple process and shouldn't need too much work to put the barbecue together.

Portable Gas BBQ

The portable gas BBQ is a convenient option that is easy to use. Once the gas is lit, the barbecue is ready to cook and you start grilling food. The portability means that you can store the barbecue in the shed or you can take it with you when you go away. A camping gas BBQ grill can last for years, making it a far more convenient and longer lasting option than a disposable barbecue. What's more, while there are some expensive models, there are also affordable alternatives so you don't have to break the bank in order to get a good quality grill.

Portable Charcoal BBQ

Whether you're choosing a portable charcoal BBQ for camping, to take on holiday, or for using at home without having to take up lots of room. As well as buying the barbecue itself, you will obviously need to buy the tools and accessories to help you prepare the food that you want. It is unusual to buy any barbecue that includes all the tools you require, but manufacturers like Weber and Outback, supply the utensils and other cooking accessories that you need.

Weber Smokey Joe

The Weber Smokey Joe is a premium but compact portable BBQ by Weber. The latest models have a lid lock function, a triple coated grill that can be used to cook enough food for a family of four, and a porcelain enamel coating that is totally weather proof and helps ensure the quality and integrity of your portable barbecue. The size of the Smokey Joe not only means that it is a good portable BBQ option, but it also means that you only need a small amount of charcoal in order to cook effectively for you and the family.

Dancook 5600 Charcoal BBQ

The Dancook 5600 Charcoal BBQ is another portable charcoal BBQ, although the stand means that this model takes up more room than the more compact Smokey Joe. It does have a lid to lock in smoke and heat, and is enamel coated with extra Teflon to make it easier to clean and to protect the grill from weather.

Cadac Kettle Chef Gas Barbecue

The Cadac Kettle Chef is a portable gas barbecue. It does have a stand, which is also where the gas bottle connects and sits, but it is smaller than the Dancook model. The Kettle Chef has a single, central gas burner, that provides the cooking heat, and it also has a removable fat pan that collects dripping fat. Piezo ignition means that the Kettle Chef is easy to light and convenient to use, while the use of high quality and long lasting materials means that the Cadac will last too.
